Geographic proximity to service centres and population centres is an important determinant of socio-economic and health outcomes. Consequently, it is a relevant dimension in the analysis and delivery of policies and programs.

To measure this dimension, Statistics Canada developed an Index of Remoteness of communities. For each populated community (census subdivision), the index is determined by its distance to all the population centres defined by Statistics Canada in a given travel radius, as well as their population size.

Description: This interactive web mapping application produces timely, quantitative and objective information on crop and pasture conditions at the census agricultural region, census division, census consolidated subdivision and township levels (counties in the United States). It includes colour images and maps, graphs and tables. It is updated on a weekly basis during the growing season and holds historical data since 1987 (1-km resolution version) or 2000 (250-metre resolution version).

This product uses low-resolution, digital satellite data to monitor the changing vegetation conditions over the whole agriculture area of Canada and the northern half of the United States.

This product describes the similarities and differences between two sets of United Nations (UN) guidelines for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: the United Nations System of Environmental-Economic Accounts (SEEA) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Statistics Canada's Greenhouse Gas Account is compiled based on the SEEA guidelines, while the National GHG Inventory is prepared by Environment and Climate Change Canada in accordance with the UNFCCC.

Description: This public use microdata file (PUMF) contains data for a wide variety of variables collected from the Canadian COVID-19 Antibody and Health Survey (CCAHS). The CCAHS collected information on the presence of chronic conditions, self-reported COVID-19 status, testing history, risk for infection, health behaviours and vaccination status. COVID-19 antibody seroprevalence laboratory data, and select demographic information are also available. Survey data were collected between April 2022 and August 2022, with the vast majority of collection occurring in May, June and July 2022.

Adults are expected to use information in complex ways and to maintain and enhance their literacy skills to adapt to ever changing technologies. Literacy is important not only for personal development, but also for positive educational, social, and economic outcomes. Adult literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills encompass a continuum of learning that enables individuals to achieve their goals, develop their knowledge and potential, and participate fully in their communities and society as a whole.

Canada has been participating in adult skills assessment surveys for several decades. The surveys are repeated every ten years, with the first in the series taking place in 1994. First there was the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS), then the International Adult Literacy and Skills Survey (IALSS) in 2003 and the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) cycles 1 and 2 in 2012 and 2022 respectively. Each of these surveys builds on the concepts of the previous surveys. Over the years, the framework has broadened the definition of literacy to adapt it to the information age, notably by including reading skills in digital environments.

Description: This survey was designed to collect details on topics such as: i) the extent to which graduates of postsecondary programs have been successful in obtaining employment since graduation; ii) the relationship between the graduates' program of study and the employment subsequently obtained; iii) the type of employment obtained and qualification requirements; iv) sources of funding for postsecondary education; and v) government-sponsored student loans and other sources of student debt. Description: The international trade monthly interactive dashboard is a comprehensive analytical tool that presents monthly changes in Canada's international merchandise trade data on a balance of payments basis. Four sections are available: 1) a page summarizing the monthly results; 2) a dashboard showing data by product; 3) a dashboard on Canada's principal trading partners; and 4) graphs that show change in price and volume indices on international trade.

Description: The Canadian International Merchandise Trade (CIMT) Web Application offers the most detailed commodity trade data using the Harmonized System (HS) classification of goods (the 8-digit commodity level for exports and the 10-digit for imports). The CIMT Web Application also offers data at the international 6-digit commodity level. With the CIMT Web Application the user can visualize the latest information on customs based monthly trade through tables and charts as well as a time series report. For a selected period of time, one can also customize its selection and visualize trade, export or import, data for a specific trading partner, a specific province and a specific variable such as value, volume and a percentage change on a monthly or annual basis. The application has also the ability to retrieve the top 25 commodities traded between a selected by the user geography, Canada or a province, and trading partner, the World or a specific country, for the month of interest. When desired, the user can copy the data seen on the screen into their preferred data manipulation software.

Description: The Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act (ESTMA) Data Portal is a collaboration between Statistics Canada and Natural Resources Canada, which administers the ESTMA. The ESTMA helps the Government of Canada deter corruption in the extractive sector by requiring extractive entities that are active in Canada to publicly disclose, on an annual basis, certain types of payments made to governments in Canada and abroad. The goal of the data portal is to increase the accessibility and utility of the payment information collected under the ESTMA by bringing together all available ESTMA data in one online location, and further enriching the payment data with analytical functions that help users to leverage the complete ESTMA dataset. The database has also been designed with mobility in mind to ensure that users and stakeholders have mobile access to ESTMA data.
